Children are God's resource.
our Lord in Heaven has explained in depth about how valuable children are in Heaven.

Getting back to the subject, you said you do not allow yourself to be attracted to children, you pretty much said that you cannot help the attraction.
But that is untrue of a Christian.

In Matthew 9:9 you read
9As Jesus went on from there, he saw a man named Matthew sitting at the tax collector's booth. "Follow me," he told him, and Matthew got up and followed him.

There are other places in the New Testament that says about the same thing.

To be a Tax collecter in Jesus's time, would had been almost the equivalent to being a pedophile in our time.
They were hated! They were the meanest most vile men, often sought after to destroy and fear.

And yet Jesus asked him to "follow me".

When the Tax collector decided to follow Jesus, did he struggle with it?
I am certain he did. He had to make a choice which master to serve.
And he choose God.
No where does it tell us in the Bible, that he remained being a tax collector when he decided to follow Jesus.

No he did not remain the same... he walked away. A changed man.
He never went back to collecting taxes!

Following Jesus is more than just sitting around waiting for a change.
Because we were given free will, it is up to us to change.
Certainly God changes us, but we must make the first step and many steps after that.

To address your question of why Christians seem to attack only the sexual sins, I do not agree with that.
But see... pedophilia offends children. That is my problem with pedophilia.
I believe that if a man comes to your home to steal your wife, she has the final say weather she goes with him or not.
If a man comes in to steal your last dollar, that dollar is unharmed.
But a sexual sin like lust, often leads to rape, and that sin offends tremendously.
