This statement can be taken too far.
The only way obedience to God can be taken too far is if it's not God you are obeying. Of course there are numerous examples of atrocities being committed by people who claim they were just obeying God. But if it's truly God commanding, there should be no ifs, ands, or buts. Question? Sure. It's ok to question, as long as you still obey. You need to devote yourself to love at every turn, since you know that it's all the law and the prophets. It supersedes obedience because it directs you to where your cooperation with God should act. Nothing supersedes obedience. To take the scripture that says love encompasses all the commandments to that extreme is treading on very dangerous ground. As mere humans, we do not always know when we are doing something out of love or out of other motives. Often our motives are mixed. Women have killed there children "out of love". Husbands have cheated on their wives "out of love." Molesters have hurt children "out of love." I don't disagree with some of ideas you are trying to get across. But it sounds like you are telling youth that as long as he does everything out of love, he'll be fine. It's not that cut and dried and can lead to monumental misjudgments. Dakota |
