I'm not sure that's true. Love can be taken too far whether it is real love or not. What causes love to be taken too far isn't the fact that it isn't genuine but that it isn't tempered by rational thought. Ultimately, love is an emotion and, like all emotions, it needs to be controlled by rational thought. Anger unchecked can lead to violence, sadness unchecked can lead to depression, love unchecked can lead to obsession. It's not that the love isn't genuine, or isn't "really love", it's that if left unchecked it's just as dangerous as all the other emotions.

Thus, I don't think your comparison really works. Obedience isn't an emotion, it's an act. You can't just replace one word with the other and still have the sentence make sense. I don't think he is favoring one word over another, it's two entirely different concepts.
