I just wanted to quote to you 'God is love. Whoever lives in love lives in God, and God in him.' which is John of course. Now I am not a great fan of John (sometimes his stuff seems to shortcircuit somehow) but if God is love then this is a love which is not generated by human emotion - which is far far beyond 'my latest crush' or what I feel for my mother - and I kind of sense that it is pretty much what we are being called to do: to love at a deeper and deeper level until we are loving as God asks us to love, which is how He loves us . .
also real love does become an act doesn't it? The saints are examples of people who live out their understanding of love by practical service which is what we are all called to one way or another.
