Marriage was never, ever sanctioned. I believe that the story of Adam and Eve is a symbol of the Fall, when the human ego drastically expanded about 6,000 years ago. I don't believe it literally, so all I have to say is that the reason male and female exist is for sexual reproduction, not for the sanctity of marriage. Jesus, being born over 2,000 years ago clearly wouldn't have known better either than to follow the Jewish texts (and I don't blame him).
Paul, although he was called to preach to the Gentiles, really had little right to say half of the things he said, especially about women. Just because it's IN the bible (ahem, chosen to be in the bible by a VOTE) doesn't automatically make it holy. The final reason why I support homosexuality is because gay unions never result in having children. Since the vast majority of people appear to be too ignorant to realise that it is selfish and all they are doing is destroying the planet and adding to the unemployment rate, I think if anyone has the potential to be gay they should take the opportunity. That way you CAN'T procreate, whether you want to or not. (sperm banks are different, because it is another who makes the decision) As for what you said about not being able to love other people properly without loving God... to me that's like taking a shit out of my mouth. It's pretty damn backwards. I would rather love those who are in the same mess as me rather than whatever force put them there. |
