Just a couple of things to consider:
1. Jesus never said that homosexuality is a sin, nor has he ever mentioned it. If there is something I have missed, please let me know. 2. Paul's writings on homosexuality are based on Old Testament laws. I can forgive him for that - he was a Jew, and zealously obeyed the laws of the Torah, so he obviously had somewhat of an inkling toward them still, although I love his repeated statements that we are free from the law. 3. The Old Testament laws concerning homosexuality are based on the culture and beliefs of that time. Back then, they believed that the man's seed was the essence of life, and basically contained a baby. So to ejaculate into anything other than a woman's vagina to give that baby life would be a form of murder. Obviously modern medicine has told us that is not true. 4. If the Old Testament laws concerning homosexuality are to be followed, then there are a number of other things that we are doing that we should consider revamping. For example, those married among us should not have sex with their wives for 7 days after her period. Oh, and beyond that, we should not even brush up against a woman who is in her period. If we do so, we become instantly unclean. Maybe that's why some fundamentalists believe women shouldn't be in business? Because we businessmen become unclean by shaking their hands at the wrong time of the month? 5. Sodom and Gamorrah... the last argument. The cities were burned because people were homosexual. WRONG!! They were burned because people were truly morally corrupt. The sin was not homosexuality, but gang rape and who knows what else... I don't wish to create dissent in the church, so I keep my mouth shut about this stuff generally. However, this is food for thought for you guys. I still struggle with it - I'm not sure whether monogamous homosexuality is a sin or not. Based on the above, I would tend to say it is not, and where Paul talks about homosexuality, he is really talking about the grotesque homosexual gang rape of the men of Sodom. I wish to hear all responses - no matter what they may be. Refute any of the above points, and you actually will have helped me in my own personal struggle on this. If homosexuality (in and of itself) really is a sin, I wish to call it as such, and avoid it. Blessings, Hikaru |
