My understanding based on Boswell and others is that the whole antinomy between "salvation through works (not omitting faith)" vs. "salvation through grace (not omitting good works)" was hammered out in detail between James and the Hebrew church vs. Paul and the Graeco-Roman church in the first century of Christianity. The result was that "salvation through works" essentially lost the battle, one of several factors that resulted in the disappearance of the Hebrew church (which existed outside of Palestine as well as within it). There was much early Christian debate about whether the book of James belonged in the bible or not and its presence there represents a diplomatic concession by the Pauline faction.

Will we improve on that discussion today? I rather think not.

Youth is saved through grace. He is saved from sins and one of them could be indolence, for all we know, though of course the Lord does want to get him up and moving if only for his own good mental health.

I would suggest his giving further consideration to the prospect of marrying a God-given boyfriend and certainly not involving innocent females in purely ideologically motivated sexual/relational experimentation.
