Blackstone, the book I recommend is:

Sexuality and Eroticism Among Males in Moslem Societies (Haworth Press, 1992) by Arno Schmitt and Jehoeda Sofer.

Parallel to prison sexuality, there is a traditional same-sex surrogacy in muslim societies where men often may not even see women (other than closest relatives) until they are married.

Most of the men involved are happily heterosexual when able to be, and will only take the active, penetrating role in a single type of sex act that we already have under discussion. A few specialists who may be psychologically gay play the role of catamite or malakos as we know it, and there are special terms for that sort of person in all participating societies, e.g., zamel in Morocco.

The existence of bisexuality (in the form we understand it) as well as capacity for surrogate sex with the "wrong" gender in both hetero and homo individuals makes it very hard to evaluate whether anyone actually modifies his own sexual orientation via this type of desperation surrogacy.

In any case, it doesn't seem to alter who they fall in romantic love with, so any sexual orientation shifting is far from profound. This practice wears its exploitativeness on its sleeve (as part of the proof that the "active" arsenokoit is not becoming feminized). I don't think it's a good model for someone trying to achieve Christian ex-gayhood or ex-BL-hood.
