I think most boys are drawn to blers because we value their company, and they sense this. Most adults merely tolerate kids. Even for those adults who really do listen to kids, it's rarely on the same level as they listen to other adults. There seems to be some kind of barrier between many adults and kids. And while I don't try to BE a kid, I am just as interested in what they have to say as any adult, often times more so. Kids like the fact that we take them seriously. Too many adults pander to kids. They may be kind to them, but they often act as though kids aren't totally worthy of equal consideration and respect till they become adults.
