Oh, definitely not! Just consider the situation of gay guys before 1970, or secret Christians in Japan. Doing thing the authorities don't like can be either necessary or admirable or both. You have to realize that the top dogs can just plain have it wrong. Then they must be resisted tooth and claw by anyone who's healthy. People often become oppressors through misunderstanding. Just because you, with your Christian love, can see where they're coming from doesn't mean you need to concede them the high moral ground. They can be understandable but shortsighted and, in practice, perfectly wrong. Then, exercising their error with too much fear and vigor, they can turn to evil without really meaning to. Just think of all those gay lovers who got arrested and put in prison for 20 years. This is just wickedness. The perpetrators didn't realize it, perhaps, but it was an outstanding crime against the human race. In which almost all of our ancestors were complicit. Health consists of seeing through these things and acting with courage and sagacity. It's axiomatic, though, that all "crimes of social weakness" are resisted by people who resist bodily as well as mentally. Prohibition law was resisted by people who actually went out and got a drink. The anti-gay laws were resisted by people who went out and formed couples or otherwise had sex. There is no waiting period where such things are merely intellectually discussed. The debate is a whole-bodied motion. Theorist of how law should be respected aren't happy with it, but it's the only pattern of reality that history ever discloses about these matters. So, bodily law resistance is also not sick. It's just standard procedure for dissent about the social control of bodies and pleasures. |
