You know, stuff like this just pisses me off (pardon my language). I understand the intent of the law, and maybe it is very well-meaning (rather than a ploy for publicity), but still ... it goes too far.
A few comments: - There are so many difficulties with how to correctly define "social networking". - A law like this would not be easily enforceable. - As one of the comments pointed out, what about sites/forums specifically dedicated to supporting sex offenders? Are those prohibited, too? - OK, so sex offenders will be banned from using YouTube (I presume). What if being able to watch videos on YouTube is the only thing keeping a sex offender from having to go out into the real world to find some sort of "release". Of course, a sex offender is still responsible for his actions. It not like he HAS to commit further offenses. But preventing him from having even INNOCENT social interaction on the internet is just setting him up for seeking some form of interaction elsewhere. - Now this point, I think, is the one that gets to me the most: You commit murder, you serve your time, you get out ... and you get an opportunity to try and rebuild your life. But you commit a sexual offense, and it's with you for the rest of your life. Not only that, you have people like this passing laws to beat you over the head for your sins ... day in and day out, until the day you die. Where is the justice in that? Rainboy |
