Had a nerd moment; ran out + saw the new Star Trek

For absolute TV-->Movie cheese, it was pretty fun. You do have to set brain on "off" in order to follow the plot, though. Spock has become such a presence. He's really graduated to Obi-Wan/Gandalf status.

Bama, as the villain was pointless. The blowing-up planets was played as a "quick & dirty" emotional trump card a couple of times too often.

Kirk-as-a-boy is a cute little devil --- but you knew this.

The big revelation was the BOY VULCANS. Oh yes, very much so indeed. Come and set on my knee and let me tell you all about Stoic Philosophy and controlling your savage emotions.

Too much Chekov, but Sulu was good.

The Kirk/Spock relationship worked well. A like to see males fighting for dominant status. Which, here, apparently means who gets to fuck Uhura. I am still trying to figure out how to read the Vulcans across the Classical matrix. Are they Greeks, (vs Romans) and older and more poetic race? Spartans (vs Athenians) always concerned that their savage helots will rise and get the better of them? Are they Upper-Class Romans with philosophy, teaching their sons the evils of drink by showing them drunken slaves? (Here, drunken and emotional humans?)

Anyways, discuss.
