A story from the depths.
A couple go out for a day together. They visit a park and spend many hours walking and playing, feeding the ducks and delighting in each others company. Afterwards they go to a nice restaurant and eat lunch. Following this they go to a movie and laugh and cry together. Hand in hand they travel home. In the hours that follow they play cards, have a light supper and cuddle up under a blanket, on the couch, to watch television. One thing leads to another; they kiss, caress and finally make love. A beautiful picture.
Along comes Christian morality. How does it affect the way we see this situation? I have called our lovers a couple. A couple can be many things.
What if they are a husband and wife? We would have no cause for alarm; our consciences would rest easy in delight and a hope for their happy future.
What if they are a married man with his mistress or (for the sake of political correctness) a married woman with her adulterous lover? Now we have reason for concern.
If they are two men or two women what then?
And of course, from our humble perspectives, what if it is a man with a boy?
What is a good and healthy thing in one context becomes, to some, a horror in another. Nevertheless, each couple is capable of enjoying the same love, the same intimacy the same delight and pleasure in each the others company as any of the others.
If we are not straight, we struggle to call sin what others call blessing and happiness. How are we to understand our desire for these things in the context of the boys with whom we desire to have them? There are those here who advocate for homosexual monogamy amongst adult lovers and, in the face of the growing public acceptance of such things, they seem able to get away with it. For those of us still focused on boys it is not so easy. We are still the monsters of this society. This dream for us would be an impossibility in their eyes, for what boy could ever love a man? they may argue.
I have but one question: Lord, why is the love I feel a sin while theres is holy? Help me to understand.
