Okay, Blackstone, here it is how it happened. It definitely *can* happen. He browsed through folders (and this *is* possible) of one of his contacts on gigatribe. He has dozens of contacts there. My friend was downloading a lot of music and comic videos, often whole folders with ten or more videos. And he loaded down several folders as he usually does, for watching them later. He's got gigs of them.
And obviously an owner of such videos had them inadvertently shared in one of his video folders. My friend had the folder several days on his PC to share whithout even knowing what was inside. In this folder were about twenty vids. The name of the folder was comics09. And three of those twenty videos were called [Edited] with an appended number. This is not the title of a file you normally would get suspicious about the contents. He was utterly shocked when he watched the first one. And within minutes he called me and told me the whole story. He is living in another town now, some two hours drive from my hometown, so without thinking too much (which was a mistake and totally naive, I know) I asked him to let the files stay shared for another half an hour for me to install gigatribe and to download them. We had a lot to speak about that vids at the phone for the next hours, how sad it is that obiously *deep trust* (and you could see it in the eyes and in the whole habit of the boy) can be exploited. And my friend knows my family, he was my best man. He knows how my own son looked like at that age, how he spoke, his whole habit. This similarity was one reason more to become really sad and angry. For both of us, it was the first video like this to watch. We decided (after finally becoming aware of the fact that we would have to destroy our harddrives physically, which made us even mad as) to do something about it. Given the contents of the metadata of the vids they were shot recently. We could recognize it was american english, but we could not pin it down to a region. Thats when we sent perfectly legal soundbits to our friends in the US, and we asked them to try to identify the twaing. The boy is even called by his real life first name in the vid - one can gather it from the immediate response of the boy. Each one of them said California. Then we came across this site (link given below) and thought we should report. After a little bit more of consideration, we agreed to think about it. And thats were the board came in. There is no physical evidence anymore, so we cannot report anymore. The legal situation in my homecountry is not that strict as in the US, if you report, you get your PC scanned, and they even say thank you. Neither my friend nor me has any record of misbehavior. So, thats it. And I have to deal now with my hatred for this guy, who not only teached this kid how to do certain things, but gave the vids away in the internet. Because I would have hated myself even more, if I would have given in to any of my so-called "needs" in my life. But this is my problem, and I hope I can calm this negative emotion and pray for the wellbeing of the boy. I believe in a certain kind of prayer. We all are deeply connected. You are right, the "report" must not be done on the physical level. His name is Jared. Please join me. Sushil I agree with you completely that with such a title, it is indeed easy to end up downloading that video innocently. However, I'm not sure it's a good idea to be giving the title away here. We don't want to accidentally make it easier for people to search for such things. --Webmaster |
