I think you did good. However, be very careful with this situation. There is a father in the picture and your becoming a friend of his son might not make him very happy. He might not show it at first, but he could be very quiet and just bide his time for a while. I'm not saying this is going to happen, who knows, he might just love the idea that you and his son are really good friends. But don't fool yourself...keep your eyes on him very closely. I can't mention names but I have seen this kind of situation happen before and it went very badly for the BL involved. However, I hope your friendship with this boy turns out well.
