Devotional #43

16 So from now on we regard no one from a worldly point of view. Though we once regarded Christ in this way, we do so no longer. 17 Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation; the old has gone, the new has come! 18 All this is from God, who reconciled us to himself through Christ and gave us the ministry of reconciliation: 19 that God was reconciling the world to himself in Christ, not counting men's sins against them. And he has committed to us the message of reconciliation. 20 We are therefore Christ's ambassadors, as though God were making his appeal through us. We implore you on Christ's behalf: Be reconciled to God. 21 God made him who had no sin to be sin for us, so that in him we might become the righteousness of God. 2 Corinthians 5:16-21

I am SO tired of people telling me that I'm a new creation in Christ so I shouldn't be same gender attracted any more...sigh... People seem so convinced that we are all basically heterosexuals who've somehow gotten stuck or sidetracked developmentally and if we could just get unstuck that we'd go back to our natural straightness. They conclude that coming to Christ should surely unstick us. "There HAS to be freedom for the homosexual!" my pastor cries.
There is freedom... and it's the same freedom any Christian enjoys... it's called reconciliation with God and it is not dependant on sexuality change.... nor a guarenteed precursor to it.
Previously we were defined by our sinful natures... but that old is gone... the new "righteous in Christ" nature is here and guess what... it's STILL not dependant on who we are but on WHO CHRIST IS IN US. It's not our sexual natures that Christ frees us from... it's our sinful natures. And it's not into heterosexulity that Christ delivers us but into righteousness and holiness and love.

Prayer
Father,
Please give me patience with those who love to moralise over us when they have no idea what they are talking about. Help us to always know that our righteousness is dependant on who Jesus is and what He's done and not on who we are and what we've done. Help us to walk in grattitude and assurance for the salvation You have given us.... and help us to be effective ambasadors in Christ. Make your reconcilling appeal through us. I ask this in Jesus name.
Amen
