A Christmas Devotional: The Greatest Boy Of All

Luke 1:26-35
Now in the sixth month the angel Gabriel was sent from God to a city in Galilee called Nazareth,to a virgin engaged to a man whose name was Joseph, of the descendants of David; and the virgin's name was Mary. And coming in, he said to her, "Greetings, favored one! The Lord is with you." But she was very perplexed at this statement, and kept pondering what kind of salutation this was. The angel said to her, "Do not be afraid, Mary; for you have found favor with God.
"And behold, you will conceive in your womb and bear a son, and you shall name Him Jesus.
"He will be great and will be called the Son of the Most High; and the Lord God will give Him the throne of His father David; and He will reign over the house of Jacob forever, and His kingdom will have no end."
Mary said to the angel, "How can this be, since I am a virgin?"
The angel answered and said to her, "The Holy Spirit will come upon you, and the power of the Most High will overshadow you; and for that reason the holy Child shall be called the Son of God."

We choose to call ourselves Boylovers. Lovers of some of the most beautiful creatures ever concieved in the mind and heart of God; the young boy. We choose to call ourselves Boylovers, and so we are. There are many stories about how a BL has taken on the responsabuility of being a mentor and friend of a young boy who is, perhaps, troubled or difficult to love. Maybe he has come from a broken home with only one parent who has little or no time for him. Maybe the only other adults in his life are too ocupied with thier own troubles or are addicted to drugs or alcohol to care about him. When a young boy grows up in an environment like that quite often he can be a handful to deal with, but because we are what we are, we can easily find it within ourselves to be a friend, a close friend, to such a boy. I believe it is because God has given us a special way to be a blessing to those who are the "least of these", so we are also blessing to the greatest boy of all: Jesus Christ.

As we read in the scripture, Jesus was concieved in such a beautiful way, by the power of the Holy Spirit, to be Holy and the very special Son of God. And yet his was the most humble of births. To be born among animals, where they sleep and eat. Most would think it unfitting for even a poor child, but especially not for the King of Kings. And yet this is just one way that God chose to help His Son identify with the very least of human beings; such as the young boys whom we sometimes befriend. And just as he gave his own Son a great earthly mother and father, He has also given our young friends a special friend to help them out. In this way we who call ourselves Boylovers are part of God's great plan in such a beautiful way. By befriending those whom the world would think of as the lowest of creatures, we are actually befriending the greatest boy of all. I cannot think of a better way to live!

Prayer:

Dear Lord, in this wonderful time of the year we would like you to know how grateful we are for the place you have given us in your great scheme of things. Please help us to always humbly give ourselves to you by showing us how to care for those young ones who you have placed in our lives. And if we do not have a young friend presently, we ask that you show us other ways we may serve you until we do. Thank you for such a gift as the one you have given us and the rest of the world; your only begotten Son, Jesus Christ. He was the King of Kings and yet was born the most humble of boys. We pray this with great thanks in His name, Amen!
