This particular issue has been a big deal for me.

For a very long time I was afraid to be honest with God about my sexuality.

All I saw was a great big stamp of disapproval hanging over my head and so I just avoided talking to God about sexuality related issues. I would say, "Oh God forgive me for failing and help me to behave" but that was as far as I could go. And this in spite of the fact that in other areas I had great communication with God.

It took time for me to learn to be honest with God.... to be able to pray prayers like... "Gee Dad that boy is so amazingly beautiful and sexy, thank you for making him so wonderful"...and... "Father, I'm really struggling with temptation right now and I want to give in so bad, please give me self-control and faithfulness".... or "Lord, all I can think about is sex right now... my brain is full of it and I'm really enjoying thinking about it".

It took me a lot of self-acceptance to be able to pray like that. I had to learn not to judge myself before I started to pray.

Heb 4:13-16
"13Nothing in all creation is hidden from God’s sight. Everything is uncovered and laid bare before the eyes of him to whom we must give account.
14Therefore, since we have a great high priest who has gone through the heavens,e Jesus the Son of God, let us hold firmly to the faith we profess. 15For we do not have a high priest who is unable to sympathize with our weaknesses, but we have one who has been tempted in every way, just as we are—yet was without sin. 16Let us then approach the throne of grace with confidence, so that we may receive mercy and find grace to help us in our time of need."

If nothing in creation is hidden from God's sight... then He knows all my deepest, darkest secrets.... and He still invites me, with sympathy, to come and boldly ask for mercy and help. God is so willing to accept us and to get alongside us in our struggles and lead us forward... He really is a friend we can go to with EVERYTHING.
