Hitting home.

I like the new warning sentences at the top of the "Post A New Message" page. Good addition.

It's funny that lately the posts have kind of centered around the growing paranoia or hysteria surrounding BL's and just today I got a little taste of it first hand. I live in a small town community and today they are celebrating Halloween in a cool way. All of the downtown stores are passing out candy to kids in costume from 12:00 noon till 3:00 p.m. There is also going to be a best costume contest for the kids and other things. The weather is nice so it is a really cool thing for the whole community to do. I don't know if larger cities do this kind of thing but I don't ever remember seeing that kind of thing when I lived in my home town.

Anyway, when I came to the library to go online, I got into a discussion with the librarian. I commented that it is such a neat thing for the town to do, this Halloween celebration for the kids. She agreed and then made the comment that it is so much better than having the kids go from house to house Trick-or-Treating because "you just don't know what kind of people there are out know, those child molesters and bad people like that.". That's pretty much what she said, not her exact words but very close. I bit my tongue really hard and quickly turned the conversation around because I just didn't feel like getting into that particular discussion with that person at that particular time and place. I guess it shouldn't surprise me too much because of all the growing hysteria but I wasn't expecting to hear it around here in a town where pretty much everyone knows every one else's business, or at least they think they do. Kind of makes you wonder what the future has in store.
