Isn't it kind of self-defeating though? We go out in the world not because we match up to other people's expectations but because God gives us a place in it. Just because the world is foolish and judgmental it doesnt mean we have to go along with it. Everyone has skeletons in their cupboards. It's just that some skeletons take up more room than others.

Having said that, I do know where you are coming from and I wrestle with this a lot each time I go out as well. People do not have the right to know everything about you though.
