In the last paragraph of my spiel I wrote 'the loss of faith in the 'monastic' way of regular prayer and an over-reliance on personally inspired prayer is the greatest tragedy that has befallen the church since the reformation.
But my wording is too ambiguous. I should perhaps have written:
'the loss of faith in the 'monastic' way of regular prayer and an over-reliance on personally inspired prayer is the greatest tragedy that has befallen the church of the reformation.'
or I could have written:
'the loss of faith in the 'monastic' way of regular prayer and an over-reliance on personally inspired prayer is the greatest tragedy that has befallen the church since its foundation.'
There are many protestant Christians who might agree with me on this (the amazing theologian Dietrich Bonhoeffer perhaps?)
