It is the nature of being human to be subject to a variety of wrong attractions. We have the misfortune to be be endowed with ones that society takes especial exception to these days. It is the purpose of the board to enable us to better "to live out our lives with integrity" given the enormous challenges we face in society and sadly even in the church. Despite the fact that the church is supposed to be a hospital for sinners, it has a depressing tendency to turn into a sanctimonious society for the self satisfied. It therefore provides little real support to those struggling with the normal types of temptation, let alone the socially unacceptable ones such as what we are dealing with.
To answer your direct question: I'm sure all of us have asked God to take away this attraction, but it hasn't happened: no doubt He could, but at present chooses not to. Why not? Why doesn't he heal every disabled person of their problem? To me the answer is the same. Unless you go to a church from which wheelchair users are guaranteed to walk away whole, you cannot argue any other position. Yes we will all be healed at the resurrection; till then we all struggle on in the certain knowledge that "my grace shall be sufficient for you". |
