Hi all,
I have a movie recommendation. It's a documentary called "Camp Out". It's about the first camp for gay, Christian teenagers. http://www.campoutmovie.com The movie does not attempt to address any of the arguments for or against homosexuality. It basically just assumes that there is nothing wrong with homosexuality (as does the camp itself), and focuses on the lives of the campers instead. The are 10 campers ranging in age from about 14 - 18, though the movie concentrates mostly on 5 or 6 of them. They range from the (self-professed) "drama queen", Tim, to the very straight-acting Jesse (who one would never guess is gay), to the very religious Thomas (who prays liturgical prayers three times a day). The camp is led by "Pastor Jay", a gay Lutheran pastor in Minnesota. I highly recommend the movie! Though it makes certain assumptions about homosexuality (that one may or may not agree with), the thing I got out of it the most was a real sense for who these young people are. They're normal, likable teenagers who are just trying to understand who they are, and where they fit in in the world and in the church. The movie was released on DVD a few weeks ago in the U.S., and I believe it is available at Blockbuster, Netflix, and for sale (through Amazon, etc). Blessings, Rainboy |
