In my experience of trying to "give things up" and set "boundaries" on myself I have found that such things don't make me a better or stronger person... they just help me to see how weak I really am... how prone to sin.

I encourage you in your effort to please the Lord. Prayer, Scritpure reading, fellowship and good works of servcie these are the things I would encourage you in.
