I think you're right here and that the more rational people realize that pedophilia is just another sexual orientation and that is what scares them, that we are like them and have the same sexual urges but towards children. I think their fear stems from this because most adult attracted adults don't have to control their urges, at least many of them. It's not all that hard for people to find a one night stand at some sleazy bar. Many people don't see prostitution as horrible and evil, it's bad but not evil kind of thing. Most straight (or gay) people CAN find a partner and then don't have to control themselves.

They see us and fear us because many of them COULD NOT do it. They feel they could not live a celibate life especially if opportunity was there often, for pedophiles who are often around children. They do not live with this particular burden and are unable to imagine doing it without bursting at the seams and seducing or raping somebody.
