I hope you are right and this research proves to be a dead end. I dread to think what a world in which your children could be brain scanned at birth to detect the presence of pedophilia would look like. But, I have to disagree with your statements refuting this study, for the following reasons:

1. Choosing non-sex offender inmates as a control group is appropriate and preferable to choosing non-convicts. You can better isolate from any changes that may be the result of general criminal proclivities, the effects of incarceration, lack of impulse control which may be present in all criminals, etc. by choosing such a control group. Other interesting control groups to further establish a relationship exist, as well as other interesting experimental groups, but it is unrealistic to expect one study to provide all necessary data. Future studies will strengthen or debunk the white matter hypothesis, but for now this study is a good starting point.

2. While I agree with some of your assertions, others fly in the face of all the evidence I have seen on the topic from both primary and secondary sources. Even if I agreed with all your assertions, the fact remains that assertions, assumptions, and conjecture do not constitute any kind of meaningful rebuttal to a study; at best, they merely illuminate possible areas for future research.

Such research is still in its infancy. To promote that people take the research with a grain of salt until more studies have proven it to be accurate is prudent. To attempt to debunk it based on the fact that it is cutting edge and incompatible with your world view is not.
