It's theoretically possible that their exposing people could get a neighbourhood mob thing going to root out the danger to children. Sort of the 'dangerous sex offender' treatment without any police involvement. However, police do tend to speculatively raid the people they expose, so anyone who has ever had traffic with salty images then eventually becomes an official DSO. Some people who have been exposed and were never arrestable are doing just fine, but it helps if you're already on a pension.

Typically people who are really dedicated to such projects have had a bad childhood experience and think they're preventing other kids from going through the same. But when this impulse gets laced with typical right wing scandalizing paranoias, then they're perfectly happy to destroy the innocent along with the guilty. They filter everything that seems to be pedophile-associated as ineluctably wicked no matter what evidence of good they encounter.
