America can be perplexing at times. The pestilence of huge numbers of handguns coming over into Canada all the time is explained by a constitutional 'right to bear arms' that is justified by the right to overthrow an oppressive government.

It's obvious now that any American group wanting to overthrow the government would need something other than handguns. Yet, I think if any citizen group tried to implement their right to accumulate the missiles, warheads, stealth technology and so on that would be needed to defeat the government in reality, this would not be tolerated.

The ongoing pose of revolutionary defense of freedom really just becomes a ticket to every criminal on the continent having a cheap lethal weapon.

So you might have something there. But I don't think it sanctifies the government: that is just a collection of people and job titles, with all the inherent strengths and fallibilities.
