Slaves, be obedient to those who are your masters according to the flesh, with fear and trembling, in the sincerity of your heart, as to Christ

1 Peter 2:18

Slaves, submit yourselves to your masters with all respect, not only to those who are good and considerate, but also to those who are harsh.

Colossians 3:22

Slaves, obey your earthly masters in everything; and do it, not only when their eye is on you and to win their favor, but with sincerity of heart and reverence for the Lord.

Eldad, your approach is legalist. You treat Paul's statements as eternal Godly laws. I can only hope that your slaves are obeying you well.

Actually, I know you disregard the above 'laws.' You may be puzzled or think me a rhetorical twister that I call you to account for your picking and choosing among these quasi-laws for those which should be dismissed with complete silence, and those which should be supported as immortal (basically, those specifically related to sex, the modern control obsession.) But it is not unfair at all, if you look at the power of those commands reproduced above, for me to ask you how you think slaves should have behaved. Somehow instead of obeying, they all escaped and became free men during the civil war, or earlier. Yes, they, in effect, divorced their owners and married their own freedom, the self-indulgent mongrels. And now sentimentalists have the moral softness to overlook this and let their still-owned offspring off the hook.

Let's restore the divine law, shall we?
