Is the belief the words are different coming from knowledge or just blind faith in what you were taught by man.
I wouldn't call it blind faith, but there is a measure of faith I put in my pastor. That, and the fact no one has ever credibly suggested that the jealous God the Bible speaks of is the same as the jealous husband or boyfriend. Also, my own experience with God has never shown Him to have the bad kind of jealousy. Also, don't you think it was the responsibility of those who translated the Bible to ensure the were 100% accurate since people base their life from it? That means we can probably say the original text is accurate but all other translations are inaccurate. What would you have them do? Add into the text that "Oh, by the way, we don't mean the same kind of jealousy in this passage that we mean in others?" They can't do that if they are trying for as close to a word for word translation as possible. That's why there are footnotes in study Bibles and Bible commentaries. The translators did the best they could considering words have different meanings depending on the context in which they are used. Have you ever tried using the translation feature on your computer to change a web page to a different language? I have. It doesn't work all that well because of the different meanings words can have. The computer isn't always very good at interpreting the context. In any translation, including the Bible, there is a certain amount of interpretation. To be 100% sure of what the Bible is trying to say, you would have to know and understand Greek and Hebrew. You would also have to know and understand the times in which they were written, since what something was meant to mean in one era may be different in another. Since I don't have the years of time it would take to gain a working understanding of the languages, I trust others who HAVE devoted the time. If they are wrong, there are always the nitpickers who revel in pointing out inaccuracies. Dakota |
