A couple of excerpts from the classic thread titled "Teens to love, Not to hug":

"I have a close YB (young buddy) of mine who is 15. He looks a little young for his age and is still extremely sexy to me. Hot, slim, tan, long hair, 5'7'' or so, blah, blah, blah. I've known him for about 3 years now...."

"My buddy has about 5/6 girlfriends during the course of the school year and seems to be completely straight."

"Even though I know my buddy is 100% straight and would never entertain the thought of anything BL-related, I love his company."

I am guessing he used 'young buddy' because a 'young friend' would have been at least somewhat physically demonstrative.
