even Saint Barack. To point at such is a form of ad hominem argument that reflects badly on its user - it suggests he's got no better argument. ;)
As far as the substantive argument goes, it fits with the reality of what Quakers are these days by their own admission - I've a former YF who was a cradle Quaker and we had some interesting conversations about it. This thread gives you a taste of the discussion: http://forum.ship-of-fools.com/cgi-bin/ultimatebb.cgi?ubb=get_topic;f=5;t=002627 IMHO the group started as a genuine move of God which has done and continues to do some good work. However when push comes to shove, a commitment to 'the inner light' as the ultimate source of guidance over against the clear word of the bible is a recipe for following the consensus of the world (or a particular strand of it) rather than the will of God. Jesus always used the scriptures in his arguments with the religious to establish a disputed point; should we not do the same? |
