I can only be so tough on my buddy when he's in a risk situation of some kind. His parents drill him about money responsibility all the time. I don't undercut them, but I allow myself some granddad privilege. I am a tad more generous than the forces of marketplace justice.

I buy him popcorn at the movies even when he owes me money.
