I've never heard of this guy but here's a quote about him from wiki.
"Krafft-Ebing wrote and published several articles on psychiatry, but his book Psychopathia Sexualis became his best-known work. Krafft-Ebing intended it as a forensic reference for doctors and judges and wrote in a high academic tone, noting in the introduction that he had "deliberately chosen a scientific term for the name of the book to discourage lay readers". He also wrote "sections of the book in Latin for the same purpose"." "pedophile" is originally two Greek words which he presumably uses for the above reasons. Why on earth should he have been the last word in this? and how long was it before there was any other word available? Is there really any other word available except BL? -which is the equivalent I suppose of 'gay' except, of course, where 'gay' has now become mainstream and acceptable, and 'homosexual' is used much more as Mr Krafft-Ebing would have intended, BL most certainly has not. |
