See if the 'still small voice' of the Lord says anything back. Now, this is a trick, since if you start listening to every bit of mental dialogue that responds to your prayers as if it were the voice of God, you could become an outright flake. The difference between God's voice and your 200 flavours of mental dialogue is 'spiritually discerned,' so also pray for the ability to truly distinguish God's answer.

I'm enough of a fundamentalist to advise you to do the following if you haven't done it already. Get down on your knees (not necessary, but very useful, as it interrupts and confounds one's ego and arrogance) and say, out loud, "Lord Jesus Christ, I accept you as the Son of God and I invite you to come into my heart as my personal saviour."

You can marvel later over what the phrase "son of God" may mean, but if you say it in this phrase as an unanalysed whole, it packs a lot of power.

This isn't obligatory; there is no magic formula that needs to be pronounced to have a meeting with the Lord. It just makes a definite statement that helps to clear some of the mental noise out of the way of your communication with our Creator.
