the only way to learn how to pray is to practise it regularly. every day with perhaps a short bible reading to start. At first, if you persevere, God will find you and touch you in indescribable ways, but the strange thing is that gradually He will do that less and less because He wants you to come to Him not because of what you can get out of it but because of what He needs from you. Eventually prayer becomes a complete darkness but please don't be discouraged because, although we can neither see, nor hear nor feel the presence of God in this darkness, somehow, in inexplicable ways,He touches us exactly where we need to be touched, giving us strength to carry on through the desert.
Don't be like I was and give up when it gets too dark. Have faith and persevere! Don't pray too long to start with but give God all the time He needs to say what He will need to tell you.
A diary can help a lot, and so can music.
