Yes I'm from the UK and I tend to agree that the UK's police state culture is becoming oppressive. Of course we are both in the same situation. I could give you references from people on this forum who have known me for over 10 years, but it wouldn't really help. The best way to proceed is to start to exchange emails with people; in time you build up real confidence - the cops are unlikely be able to put that much effort in or produce the extensive emails that I've shared with some of the people I've corresponded with over the years. Of course you've got more to lose at the moment than many of us; I doubt your parents would cope very well with the cops coming in and removing your computer to check for illegal material if things did go wrong. So I'd encourage you to start emailing people and build up relationships that way but resist the temptation to do anything further for a LONG time - the far side of A levels might be appropriate; indeed some contacts remain permanently virtual - I emailed one guy for years and never met him...
You might want to read http://duskpeterson.com/goldstar/ which is a wonderful novel set in the world of CBF and Boychat AND real life - capturing something of the joys and challenges of living in the shadows and meeting in real life.... |
