It's a via negativa argument, Dakota.

Like masturbation, same-sex relations per se are not disallowed by any scripture. All that is disallowed is exploitative sexual surrogacy with members of the same sex or with animals. These both involve people turning away from what is natural to them, something that is not a factor in gay relationships. AND promiscuity and adultery are also recommended against. Ergo, 'committed' is the right path. Why? Because that's what people who really love and look after each other tend to do.

The sociologist Max Weber used to claim he couldn't do religion because he was 'tone deaf' for whatever makes it seem valuable to people. I doubt that was really true, though. Sometimes I have the impression people are also laying on tone-deafness about loving relationships. The idea of a loving relationship isn't really THAT hard to apprehend.

Now about the bible and the age of consent, that's an interesting subject. The Jewish tradition about 13 may have been based more on common sense than on a scripture. But leaving that aside, who is the youngest approvably married person mentioned in the bible?
