There's more to life than romantic love

The book that most helped me see that is 'Keith Clark's 'An Experience of Celibacy'. The writer is a Capuchin Friar - a sort of monk though one active in Christian ministry. In that book - and its sequel 'Being Sexual... and Celibate' he struggles with our issues from a slightly different perspective, of having chosen to live without a sexual relationship. (Both are available on Amazon).

His central answer is to look for 'intimate' relationships. By this he is not suggesting sexual, but rather friendships where you are truly yourself, where you are known and love and valued and appreciated. The temptation for us BLs is to look for that from boys - and only from boys. Rather we must do it from other places; as Christians we should find such love from our fellow Christians in our church - and we need to make the effort to reach out to those around us. And in general we need to work at the relationships that we do have, make more of them, deepen them, seek to build on them.

It's easy to run away and hide - but that's not the answer, and it will only make us feel worse and worse. The alternative is to take risks, to take the risk of rejection, hurt, embarrassment etc. But actually compared with the hurt you're feeling at the moment, the worst possible outcome of such a rejected invitation is not really so bad, is it? And you may find that you end up being the answer to the prayer of another isolated, miserable person.
