I too am in favor of a decent program for those persons who have commited crimes against children and are in need of it. However, as is often the case, the law practices a kind of "blanket" approach where anyone with anything even remotely like a sexual offense is placed in these programs. At least that is what I experienced and what I have heard from others who have had to go through it. You can have people in there who have been in trouble for having child porn to those who have been in prison for rape. I have also heard about (and witnessed) cases where young teens are sentenced to these programs for simply experimenting with another, younger teen of the opposite (or same) sex.
I don't recall anything as blatent as the kind of stuff portrayed in "A Clockwork Orange" but I believe there was some subtle things going on that were just as devistating. It sure seemed like Big Brother was alive and well and breathing down our necks all the time, especially when we were in the "classes", but then even when we were not. They were very good at instilling paranoia in a person and I am still suffering from it. ![]() |
