I think it depends on the kind of treatment. I am in favor of group therapy and cognitive-behavioral approaches. While most of us probably do not need this or any other kind of therapy, the fact is that many people do. You have to keep in mind that the vast majority of sex offenses against children are not perpetrated by preferential pedophiles like us but rather by situational pedophiles, straight men who have had sex with a child due to a confluence of external factors. Such people can benefit greatly from the cognitive behavioral tools that psychology can provide them.
I am opposed to all manner of "A Clockwork Orange" style aversion approaches, chemical castration, and other invasive techniques that attempt to change the way your subconscious works rather than focusing on giving you the tools to make the right decisions by choice. |
