Well OF COURSE it say choose for yourselves!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
The ACTION OF CHOOSING still applies, but it doesn't immediately imply free will. I would say that I CHOSE an apple instead of an orange, that still doesn't imply free will! Are we just robots? Well, yes, if you want to put it into a completely stereotypical manner which sets half the audience against me before we even have time to explain. Yes, we are machines. We are organic machines, whether we evolved or not. If you take a look into the brain, you will see that it works through CAUSE AND EFFECT just like everything else in nature. If a process were to happen in the brain which went AGAINST cause and effect (ie. 'free will'), it would have been observed by now and noted as a scientific impossibility. But actually, by mapping the neurones in the brain we are actually able to predict reactions in an individual. The case against free will is actually one of the main reasons I believe in God. I started to believe in God when I was looking for something BEHIND the cause and effect, someone or something who was in control. In my mind at least, the fact that we don't have free will is FAR MORE compatible with the idea of a God. Because HE is in control. We can do NOTHING which is against the will of God and to say that we have 'free will' is to say that we have some kind of divine power. The fall, by the way, had to happen. It was cause and effect as well, whether it be literal or symbolic. Sorry, I've been shouting a bit, there's no need for it because I'm not actually angry. I'm just trying to get my point across. My point is, assuming that there is no free will, God shall not condemn anyone to hell for choosing to reject him when HE KNEW that they would reject him in the first place! It is completely unjust. In fact, God's omniscience (which I firmly believe in) is a complete contradiction to free will in the first place. I find it hard to understand how you can reconcile God's omniscience with free will. Any way I look at trying to do that baffles me; it's either one or the other. Aionios. |
