Listen to this wise quote...
"You can't have an effect without a cause causing that effect to take effect" Do you agree with that? Or are there effects to which there are no causes? I know that you're a Christian, but you can't deny those things called 'chemicals in your brain'. You know... the ones that HAVE actually been proven to exist? I did not CHOOSE to write this post. It was because the chemicals in by brain which wanted to make me prove a point were stronger than the chemicals in my brain which made me want to get dressed (I'm naked at the keyboard, you see). Now you could say, "Ha! I can disprove this by CHOOSING not to write this post even though I want to!" But the truth is that once again the chemicals that make you want to prove a point to yourself are stronger than the chemicals that make you want to prove a point to somebody else. You can apply this to ANY situation. If free will existed, it could only be randomness effecting the brain... which wouldn't be free will. I know that stereotypical Christians don't like science (i.e. truth) that much these days; but I'm throwing this in here because I gather that you're smater than the average hillbilly. Well, you're boylovers. You've got to be smarter. :D To avoid any confusion, I'm not an atheist or anything. I a fence-sitter who is leaning towards unconditional faith in Christ. I know this because I always find myself defending him in chats about Jesus. The reason for consciousness is FOCUS. The reason for pain and pleasure is so that everything is not reflexes (you might be running over broken glass to get away from a murderer). Consciousness exists for FOCUS, that's it's sole purpose: investigation, observance, awareness. |
