There, you said it.
I'm probably way oversimplying but I reckon it's at least partly about control. wanting to stay in control I mean . . . . and the further along the spiritual road we travel the more tempting it is to just throw in the towel and do things my own way again . . . so it's like a kind of struggle for power . . . [except of course it isn't really about power - that's just the way we humans tend to look at it when we are struggling along and not understanding.] So when we try to be in control we are like the toddler who is determined to walk by himself and do things his way way before he is really able.
the reason why we cannot trust God to take control is because we lack faith . . . . and I was going to say thats a whole different ballgame but actually come to think of it, it isnt at all.
So perhaps ultimately our sin is mostly through a lack of faith. We seek control because we cannot really trust God like when I drive my mother somewhere, and she backseat drives all the time because she doesn't trust my driving (with some good reason by the way) So maybe that's how it is with God. Because we can't trust him enough we steer things our way whenever we lose faith and, being mostly blind and only seeing a foot in front of us [because we don't see the world in a spiritual way but in a concrete material way] we inevitably miss the whole point and hit a deadend. It isn't until we can admit our blindness and take our life the way that God leads that we can find ourselves . . . Jesus goes on and on about faith and how even his disciples didn't really have any . . . .
mmmmm, terribly garbled though.
