Hi Cat,
How can it be bro that if God don't want you to be something He don't change it? If you say that it's not God's heart's desire for you to be this way... but He allows it as part of His plan (which includes allowing sin in the world) then I'd say you are still in option 3. I was almost certain someone would take issue with my statement ... but I thought it would be Blackstone :-) Seriously, though, I think it comes down to how one defines "wants". To me there is a definite aspect of "desire" to the word. But anyway, let me try an illustration (with apologies to the movie "The Good Son"): I don't know how many children you have, but let's say you have two sons. You and your sons are standing at the edge of a cliff overlooking a deep ravine. To fall would mean certain death. Suddenly, without warning, a gust of wind causes both your sons to lose their footing and they slip over the edge. Miraculously you catch them both, with one hand holding each. Within moments, however, you realize that you can't hold on much longer, and you don't have the strength to pull them both to safety. Your only option is to let go of one and use both hands to save the other. In the most terrible moment of your life you release your grip on your younger son and watch him plummet to his death as you pull your older son to safety. Would it be fair to say you wanted your younger son to die? I can't imagine ANY decent person answering "yes" to that question. It's an extreme example, but I think it is relevant. When two choices are mutually exclusive (i.e. you can only pick one), "wanting" and choosing one of those options does NOT mean that one "wants" the outcome that results from not choosing the other. It just means the chosen option was (likely) the better of the two choices. As it relates to this thread, I'd say that God chooses to NOT change my BL desires, NOT because He "wants" me to have them, but simply because, in His wisdom, He knows there is something that is better for me in the long run, and that "something" can not be achieved by giving me a quick fix for my desires (because the two options are mutually exclusive). Though His wisdom is vast, and I can only grasp a small fraction of it, I can only assume that, by having to face these struggles, while relying on His strength, the refining I'll undergo is of greater value to Him than the easy life I might have lived without these desires. On a bigger scale, why does He not step in and stop hunger ... rape ... genocide? Does He "want" those things? No! I believe they grieve His heart! But, He has decided that allowing free will ... allowing humanity to make its own choices ... is of greater value in the long run than creating a paradise on earth, populated with mindless drones that are not allowed to choose for themselves. That's how I see it, and I'm sticking with option 4 :-) Blessings, Rainboy |
