I got an email from the official Billy Elliot fan website that said that the musical has been nominated for 15(!) Tony awards. They include Best Score, Best Book of a Musical, Best Director of a Musical, Two Best Featured actor in a Musical (David Bologna and Gregory Jbara), Two Best Featured Actress in a Musical (Haydn Gwynne and Carole Shelley), Best Scenic Design of a Musical, Best Lighting Design of a Musical, Best Costume Design of a Musical, Best Sound Design of a Musical, Best Orchestrations, and Best Choreography. Other Nominations include 10 Outer Critics Circle Awards including: Outstanding New Broadway Musical, 10 Drama Desk Awards including: Best Musical, AND Drama League Nomination/Honors: Disinguished Production of a Musical & Distinguished Performance Award for the three Billys. ALSO they are the winner of the Best Musical from the New York Drama Critics' Circle.

WHEW! Can you say "This is a huge hit!". Man...sure wish I could go. Maybe someday, it looks like this one will be playing for a while.
