It's not a movie with mass appeal, but I loved it. Being an independent film, it is free to break from the three act Hollywood formula and doesn't even bother to use a traditional narrative arc. For many people, this makes the film a slow, meandering work that never really seems to be going anywhere. For those who have acquired a taste for films outside what is considered the norm, this can be a wonderful film.
If you like some of the following movies, there is a good chance "Me, You, and Everyone We Know" might be your kind of film: Sideways Happiness The Royal Tenenbaums A Prairie Home Companion Storytelling Nashville The Life Aquatic With Steve Zissou Personally, I love this movie. I think the pooping back and forth scene is so over the top that it dominates the whole movie, becoming the only thing about the movie that people remember. That's not to say it's a bad scene; it's brilliant. The dialogue is delivered flawlessly and with masterful timing by the young actors (probably a result of good direction). The scene is great and I don't think it should have been cut from the movie, it's just unfortunate that it overshadows the rest of this wonderful film. |
