I haven't done much study on the subject but I had a counsellor who was very interested in this subject and often tested out theories on me.

Supposedly boys start out wanting to have sex with their mothers and the father is the enemy with whom we compete for the mother's attention.

Frankly it doesn't gel with me.

What ever the environmental factors that shape our sexuality, I feel that wanting to have sex or avoid having sex with my parents is probably not a huge one of them. For others it might be different.

As to lolita, well I saw the film. To me the book would only be relatable if it was written by a GL or a BL. I can't stand sterotypical works that show what the straight world THINKS BLs and GLs are like... and I got that a bit from the movie. Trying to explain things that don't have explainations and trying to present everything GL related as ultimately destructive... intersting movie... but not necessarily a good reflection of life in the real world.
