Phaedrus

Has anybody read that? It's a dialogue by Plato...part of it goes something like this:

it starts off by saying that someone (Lysias) gave a speech saying it's more beneficial for a boy to be in a relationship/friendship with someone who is not in love with him. the reason he explains is that the person in love with him will try to shape/mold and control the boy for his own pleasure and prevent him from growing up and such.

then plato argues (in the voice of socrates) that love is a madness and that madness is divine. therefore the love relationship is a gift from the gods and their relatinoship is divine. and when the boy and the lover are able to control their sexual and other basic desires, they go to heaven after they die. he concludes that a loveless friendship would be just another meaningless human relationship based on material and wealth and other pointless trades.

if ur interested in more details, u can look it up on wiki. and if ur really courageous, u can read the actual book, which is a pain in the ass to read...it's like reading shakespeare, the language is complicated and awkward.
