It's interesting that Ricky bonded so well with Voight. He must have been a special kid. He made a movie will William Holden once called "The Earthling." It's one of my favorite movies, but I don't think it's out on DVD. I looked forever till I found a tape of it. A short synopsis is that Ricky is vacationing in the Australian outback with his parents when his parents are killed when their RV goes off a cliff. Ricky is left all alone in the middle of nowhere. He was around 10 at the time I think. Holden was a gruff man dying of cancer. He came back to Australia to hike back to the wilderness where he grew up so he could die there. He witnessed the accident, but didn't think he had enough time left to live to be able to take Ricky out of the wilderness. So he took him along to his "home" and taught him (a sissy city kid, as he called him, lol) how to survive in the wild.
It's a very endearing movie, but my point is that I read that Ricky also developed a strong bond with William Holden. I read they spent time together during the filming process off the set, fishing and stuff. An interesting tidbit is that was the last movie William Holden made before he died for real. It must be true that they developed a bond and not some PR drivel, because Ricky named his first son Holden. Dakota |
